† After their concert in France
This interview is from JaME Nederland. All credits go to them! Dio - distraught overlord interview in Europa Author : Tanja ; translation : Nathalie JaMe had an interview with the new visual kei band Dio – distraught overlord the day after their concert in Paris, France. Despite the fact that they’re pretty new, they started in 2006, surprises Dio – distraught overlord the whole world with their impressive appearance. Last year we already saw them performing in France during an event and this year they came back for a second tour through whole Europe, with a total of 15 concerts. After their show in Paris JaME could have a talk with the five members of Dio. First of all, could you introduce yourself for the readers of JaMe? Denka: My name is Denka and I’m the drummer. Ivy: I’m Ivy, bassist. Kei: I’m Kei, gitarist. Manager: Erina is also a gitarist, but he’s not here yet. Mikaru: I’m the vocalist, Mikaru. What did you think of the show from yesterday? Mikaru: We played last year during the Japan Expo, this time it felt different because we gave a show for the fans of Dio and we felt we were expected. We were relaxed and we felt comfortable so we could play in a natural way, without tension. I feel very honoured that I got the chance to do this concert. And what do you think of the fact that you came to Europe? Erina (who just arrived): Our thoughts are a little bit complex because it’s different from last time. It may be the second time but it’s not the same at all. Our expectations are different, they are at different places. We were very curious to how it would be. Erina, what is your opinion about the show? Erina: My impressions is that all brakes and tensions were gone immediately. We were worried until the last moment, we didn’t know ho wit would be with the organisation. We didn’t know if there would be an opening act, how long we could play, etc. It influenced us but when we came on stage the audience immediately reacted on us. There were less people than at the Japan Expo, but this group had much more energy. Soon a mini-album will be released, have you played some songs of that album yesterday? Erina: Yes, we played three songs of it. (thinks) Um no, four from the five songs from this mini-album. Is this album different from the others? Mikaru: Heaven's call is different from the Byakuya ni moyuru hana maxi-singles. It’s not a story which is told by three singles, it’s a new challenge. But despite that you’ll find that typical world of Dio in it. For us it’s something new, like a new baby. Is it a change of your style? Mikaru: We put more power in the music. I’m sure the fans can feel the new power and that more people will listen to Dio. What do you think of the person next to you? Denka (about Erina): In our music we are very close. He has a good character, is very honest and open, and he can react on things very fast! Erina (about Kei): We’re both guitarist and our worlds are close to each other. When we’re together to practise we play 'guitar battles' (Erina and Kei imitate this), we both love heavy metal (laughs). I’m very sensitive for details and he just doesn’t care about it (laughs). Kei (about Ivy): Ivy is charming but an "otaku*". He’s sweet and sensitive, and very exact, which I’m really not. I still have the same look as in the beginning but Ivy changes his look all the time, that’s one of his talents. Ivy (about Mikaru): He’s a rebel, but no so violent as he is on stage. He’s a thinker, he bears our bags for example (laughs). It’s strange, he loves calm music but he sings very different. He’s evolutionary on stage, but not in the real life. He also loves himself a bit and he’s always bussy with himself but actually only when it’s about his looks. Mikaru (about Denka): He is definitely the most intelligent of us five, he knows how to change his thoughts into words. But physical he’s irresistible, and only looking at him makes you calm (laughs). I think he’s the prince of calmness in our family. Do you have a message for your fans? Denka: I feel honoured and grateful to the readers of your website worldwide who listen to our music. Thanks a lot all of you. Erina: Maybe there are readers who don’t know us yet, but discover us now. This is a big chance for us to get famous. We’re trying to give shows over the whole world, so if we get the chance to see you, we really like that. I’ll give the best I can to fulfil your expectations. I give a message of friendship to those who read this message. Kei: I’ll try my best to get the best out of me, and the best of our music, for the readers. If you can find yourself in our looks or music, come to our shows! If there’d be more who would like to see us we’d be very honoured. I’ll also try to fulfil all the expectations. Ivy: Hi, my name is Ivy. My message is: listen to Heaven’s Call. We put all our energy in the album! Mikaru: The readers who like Dio and who like our opinions and music, I see them as my friends, my wives, my family. So whether it are boys or girls, they are my family, so as long as Dio lifes we’ll be together. Thank you and good luck with your shows. Translation by Emiko. Thanks to Dio and JMusic Live. * Otaku is a Japanese term used to refer to people with obsessive interests, particularly anime, manga, and video games. Translated to English by Darcy Maris. |
